Although you can use Konqueror's bookmarks to record the locations of your own files and directories, they are most useful when you are surfing the Web, letting you build up a list of useful sites.
To open the Bookmarks drop-down list you may either left click on the Menubar Bookmarks item, or use the Alt-B hotkey. Once the list is visible, you can navigate through it with the arrow keys or with your mouse, then press Enter or left click to visit the selected location.
To add a new item to the list use the Menubar Bookmarks->Add Bookmark item or Ctrl-B when you are viewing the desired directory or web page.
If you are also using Netscape, then a Netscape Bookmarks folder will automatically be added to Konqueror's bookmark list so you can use your Netscape bookmarks in Konqueror.
If you have chosen to include a Bookmarkbar in Konqueror's window, then the drop-down menu will also include an entry for the Bookmark Toolbar, allowing you to add new entries or subdirectories.
If you have a dual-boot Linux/Windows system, then Internet Explorer's File->Import and Export->Export Favorites option will create a .htm file containing links to your IE favourites. From within Konqueror you can then, as long as you have access to the Windows partition, find that file and add it to your bookmarks. In this way you can access all of your old IE favourites.
The Bookmarks->Edit Bookmarks... option opens the directory holding your bookmarks, allowing you to delete any unwanted item, or change the displayed name by right clicking on the file name, picking Properties... and editing the name in the General tab page of the Properties dialog box. Whatever new name you choose must end with .desktop.
To create your own subdirectories in the bookmark list you may either choose the Bookmarks->New Folder option or open the bookmarks directory and add a subdirectory with the Create new->Directory option.
![]() | Unfortunately you can't control the displayed order of the bookmarks in the toolbar or list at present. This is being worked on for a future release of Konqueror. |
